‘The Flash’ Plot, Cast, Release Date, And Everything You Need To Know

James Gunn’s new DCU will begin in 2025, and it is “The Flash” that is being heavily touted to bring about the reboot that will make the transition easier. The first trailer for “The Flash” was recently released, and it’s creating a storm on social media. As the title says, the movie is about Barry Allen, aka The Flash, a superhero with the ability to run at great speeds. In the film, his powers will take him to another world and another time. Now, it’s his responsibility to save that world and return to his Earth. But it’s something that might prove to be impossible.

‘The Flash’ Plot

Various movie insiders have said for a long time that “The Flash” is a spectacle that has to be seen to be believed. When the trailer was released, James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, tweeted that he loved the film and couldn’t wait for everyone to see it as well. Looking at the trailer, there are plenty of things that will excite fans and general audiences alike. The trailer begins with presumably Michael Keaton’s Batman asking Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen why he wants to stay in his world and fight to protect it when he can go anywhere, to any timeline he wants. Barry answers that it’s because his mother is alive in this one.

This is the emotional crux of the film. Barry travels back in time to save his mother from getting murdered, but he doesn’t exactly travel back in time to his world. Instead, we see that he is on an Earth where instead of Ben Affleck’s Batman, we have Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne. Also, there’s no Superman on the planet even though the events of “Man of Steel” still play out with Michael Shannon’s General Zod and his Kryptonian army invading the planet. Instead, what we have is Sasha Calle’s Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. The trailer shows us that she was kept captive in a facility, and when she regains her powers, she is the one who stands up against Zod and his army.

But the most interesting part of the almost 3 min trailer is Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen meeting his alternate past self. By the end of the proceedings, it’s clear that the two Barrys will get powers, and they will race to save the world with Keaton’s Batman and Calle’s Supergirl. The little cameo by Affleck’s Batman, where he explains that Barry could destroy everything in a mad attempt to save his mother, serves as a reminder of everything that will go wrong in the film. How will Barry ultimately put it all together? That’s the hook of the film.

‘The Flash’ Cast And Crew

“The Flash” has a stacked cast that begins with its lead, Ezra Miller. While Miller has been embroiled in various allegations and their future in the DCU looks uncertain, at least for this movie, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has no qualms about putting their leading hero front and center. Next up is Michael Keaton returning as Batman. General audiences will have seen his version of the dark knight in the “Batman” and “Batman Returns” films from 1989 and 1992, respectively. So seeing the man put on the cowl after almost three decades will certainly prompt audiences to head to the theaters, something WBD will be banking on.

The third prominent hero is Ben Affleck’s Batman. He is returning after his last appearance in the 2021 film “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and unfortunately, it seems like it is his last outing as DC’s live-action Batman. However, James Gunn has mentioned that there are talks about him directing a project for DC. Whether that manifests or not remains to be seen. Fourth on the list is Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. This will be Calle’s first theatrical outing. The only other notable work on her list is the daytime drama “The Young and the Restless.” Also returning in the film is Michael Shannon as General Zod and Antje Traue as Faora.

The last time we saw the two in these roles was in “Man of Steel,” where Zod got his neck snapped by Superman and Faora was sent to the Phantom Zone. It’s clear that the events of this film will be drastically different with no Superman here. However, with Supergirl, Batman, and two Flashes, the stakes of the film will certainly be higher.

‘The Flash’ Release Date

Ezra Miller-led “The Flash” will release on June 16, 2023. With the movie less than four months away, WBD will be picking up promotions for the movie. So we will get to know a lot more about the film in the coming weeks. It’s interesting to note that the film has been in development for over eight years and has changed directors and scripts multiple times. As such, it remains to be seen if the long wait and innumerable changes will ultimately pay off with hearty box office results or not.
