We do love a power-packed action film. Having our beloved “Thor” from the MCU, Chris Hemsworth, in action surely excited us even more. The 2020 Netflix film “Extraction” was a massive hit among the audience. It thus came as no surprise when Netflix dropped the trailer for its sequel “Extraction 2”. We are sure to love the second installment, the adaptation of the graphic novel by Ande Parks titled “Ciudad.” So far, Hemsworth has aced the role of our beloved superhero, and watching him turn into an action hero is incredibly delightful. The trailer for Extraction 2 is promising, even though it does not reveal much about the plot. But what we know is that the film will not disappoint us when it comes to action. Also, it seems that the protagonist will face his inner demons too, and we are sure that we shall learn about Tyler Rake’s personal life.
The film is directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Joe Russo. After the official trailer was launched on April 3, many believed that the film had the potential to become a franchise. The story revolves around the black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), who was a former Australian special forces operator. The audience saw Rake travel to Bangladesh for his first extraction to rescue the kidnapped son of a drug lord. Although we are quite sure that after taking the bullet, Rake had lost his life, in the final scenes, we see a defocused figure that looks like Rake, restoring our hope of him being alive.
Although the trailer for “Extraction 2” shares very little about the story, what we figured out is that Rake is on another mission. This time, in all probability, he is saving a girl, or so it appears in the very first seconds of the trailer.
Spoilers Ahead
Release Date
The highly anticipated action film is all set to be released on the most-liked OTT, Netflix. The date of the release is June 16. We are sure that “Extraction 2” will leave a prominent mark on the audience even though it is being released on the same day as “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
Cast
There is a great debate about Chris Hemsworth as an actor. For many, he fails at acting but is always charming on screen with his brawny physique; others consider him a flamboyant actor. Although we would not like to add fuel to the fire, considering the protagonist, Tyler Rake, is a unilateral character, Hemsworth surely deserves applause. The little that we see in the trailer of Marvel’s iconic hero, he appeared deadpan. Nonetheless, we see him fighting a throng of “bad men” to save a girl. His action stunts were not very different from those in the earlier movies he had been in. So, the audience would find similarities in his style with that of Thor in any Marvel movie or even a shadow of the Huntsman from “Snow White and the Huntsman”.
Moving on to the other cast, we have the beautiful Iranian-French actress Golshifteh Farahani, who plays the role of Nik Khan. You surely remember her from the first installment of the film and other films like “The Patient Stone” (2012) and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Lies” (2017). We also have Tinatin Dalakishvili playing the role of Ketevan, whom you might know from “Hostages” (2017) and “Abigail” (2019). Sinead Phelps plays Kutaisi Staff, who you might remember from the comedy series “Miracle Workers: Dark Ages” starring Daniel Radcliff. We also have Adam Bessa, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, and Rayna Campbell from “Extraction” (2020).
‘Extraction 2’ Trailer: What Is It About?
In the two-minute-long trailer, all that we see is a display of intense action. The scene opens with the anxious hand gesture of a girl who is sitting behind bars (probably where she is kept as a captive). Rake appears and calls her, and asks her to move. Moments later, we see hoards of men ganging up against him and an intense action sequence. It appeared that the gang wanted to prevent Rake from freeing the girl. He threw a hand grenade at the mob, all while covering the girl for her safety. Soon after in the fight, someone hits Rake behind the head, and for a second, he seems to have lost consciousness, falling back into the lap of similarly intense memories.
However, he comes back to his senses, and all this while, a woman’s voice keeps asking her questions about him coming back from the dead (which is probably what he is doing now). He regains consciousness and fights with all his strength. He was both literally and metaphorically on fire while he tried to rescue the girl. In the final scene in the trailer, he shoots down a helicopter while he is on top of a moving train that is passing through snow-covered tracks. The trailer promises action that will surely pump your adrenaline. We also have high hopes to find out more about Rake’s past and how he bounced back from such a lethal wound.
