Sustainability For A Bright Future

Samsung highlighted the need for creating a sustainable environment through technology at CES 2023, and it was expected to bring this topic up at Galaxy Unpacked 2023. The company has already shifted to 100% recycled paper box packaging and made internal and external parts with recycled aluminum, plastic, and glass. This year, the company has further pushed its limits by incorporating 80% recycled PET, 22% recycled glass, and 20% ocean-bound plastic in the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung also announced that its mission is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Collaboration With Qualcomm and Google

TM ROH of Samsung, Hiroshi Lockheimer of Google, and Cristiano Amon of Qualcomm announced that the 3 companies have partnered to create a mixed-reality platform in this event. They did not unveil any devices or software at the event, but without a doubt, this could pose a serious challenge to both Apple and Meta. This partnership will bring next-gen technology into mixed reality, with each candidate bringing in their own expertise. Investment and research in AR and VR have been steady for Google for quite some time, several headsets use Qualcomm-made chips, and Samsung already has experience in creating VR headsets for smartphones. Along with these, Google and Samsung will be working to release a version of the Wear OS that will provide compatibility in cross-platform ventures.

Wrapping Up

The Galaxy Unpacked 2023 also saw the introduction of new software in the form of One UI 5.1, which will sit on Android 13 and make some minimal changes. The expectation for the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 9 was quite high, but maybe due to the sluggish sale of the previous model, the company made no such announcement. Overall, it has been a successful event, and pre-booking has already begun for both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Book 3 series.
