‘Huawei P60 Pro’ First Impression Review: A Smartphone With Variable Aperture Lens

A lot of confusion has been raised about the release of the products in the global market by Huawei for their gadgets which they announced on March 23, 2023. Recently, the company has rescinded that confusion by releasing a statement that it will bring the Huawei Mate X3, TalkBand b7, Huawei P60 series, and Huawei Watch Ultimate to the global stage by first launching them on May 9, 2023, in Munich, Germany. Leaked reports have suggested that in the P60 series, only the P60 Pro will be launched in the global market. Read the article to find out more about the specifications of the P60 Pro.

Build And Design

Available in soothing colors like Rocco Pearl White, Green, Black, and Violet, the Huawei P60 Pro has a dimension of 161 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm and weighs 200 g. The Rocco Pearl White model has a unique textured design that reflects elegance and brings back memories of the classics. With an aluminum frame, the device has Feather Sand Glass on its rear, which has an anti-fingerprint coating, while its display has Kunlun Glass, which has five-star certification for glass drop resistance from SGS. To further bolster its build quality, the Huawei P60 Pro also has IP 68 certification for dust and water resistance.

Display

The Huawei P60 Pro has a Quad-Curve panel with a 6.67 in LTPO OLED display that supports 1 billion colors. Depending on the usage, the device supports an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz and comes with a peak brightness of 1500 nits. The bezels are thin, and the screen-to-body ratio of the Huawei P60 Pro is 89.8%. The display provides true-to-life details and crisp colors as it has Huawei’s X-True Display. The Huawei P60 Pro has a screen resolution of 1220 x 2700 p and a pixel density of around 441 PPI, with support for a P3 wide color gamut and a certification for Color Accuracy and Precise Color Projection from TUV Rheinland.

Technical

Unfortunately, the Huawei P60 Pro will not have Google Play, which is going to hamper its audience reach. But it will have the EMUI 13.1 OS for the European market and the HarmonyOS 3.1 for the Chinese market. The device has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G processor, which is supported by an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 730 GPU. The Huawei P60 Pro comes with internal storage and RAM options of 256 GB/ 8 GB and 512 GB/ 8 GB, with an additional memory card slot that can support up to 256 GB. The smartphone does not have a 3.55 mm headphone jack but has stereo speakers. Other than all the technical specifications, it contains all the necessary sensors, including the fingerprint sensor lodged in the display.

Camera

The main highlight of the Huawei P60 Pro is the triple camera module, which consists of 48 MP (wide), 48 MP (telephoto), and 13 MP (ultrawide). The primary camera has an F1.4-F4.0 physical aperture, which auto-adjusts itself based on the scenario and helps to take crystal-clear images at any time of the day. For dim light scenes, it will have F1.4, for bright landscapes, it will shift to F2.0, and for group photos, it will shift to F4.0. Along with the auto-adjustable aperture, the RYB sensor and OIS further help in capturing sharp details, contrast, and richness. The telephoto camera has an F2.1 aperture, which allows the intake of 178% more light, along with OIS and 3.5x optical zoom. The Huawei P60 Pro’s images have the ability to imitate the texture of the object as perceived by the human eye with its XD Fusion Pro texture engine. The device is also equipped with a 13 MP selfie camera, which comes in a punch-hole design. The rear camera can record 4K videos at 30 and 60 FPS, while the front camera can only record at 30 FPS.

Battery And Connectivity

A 4815 mAh battery is implemented inside the Huawei P60 Pro to serve your daily purposes. The battery supports charging via 88 W wired and 50 W wireless chargers, where you can get 50% of the charge in 10 minutes using the wired charger. For prolonged battery life, the Huawei P60 Pro also has BatteryCare optimizations. For connectivity, it has WiFi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2. The Huawei P60 Pro has further BDS satellite connectivity that allows two-way messaging, which is something that can come in handy in places where there are network issues. The device does not have 5G connectivity, which is a bit of an issue if you consider future options.

Conclusion

The base variant of the Huawei P60 Pro is priced at CNY 6,988, which roughly comes to $1024, ₹84,000, and €945. The price set for the device categorizes it in the flagship segment, with a magnificent display and top-notch camera module. But the absence of 5G, Google Play service, and limited satellite connectivity, will require the company to hard sell the product in this competitive market.
