‘Oppo Enco Free 3’ First Impression Review: World’s First Earbud With A Bamboo Fiber Diaphragm

The Oppo Enco Free 3 was announced at an event held by the company on March 21, 2023, in China. Along with the Oppo Pad 2, the Oppo Find X6, and the Oppo Find X6 Pro, the Enco Free 3 became the latest product in the audio department. The Oppo Enco Free 3 is more of a budget-segment earbud, and the company claims it to be a vast improvement over its predecessor. Design

Available in soothing colors like Blue Forest White and Bamboo Shadow Green, the Oppo Enco Free 3 comes in an oval-shaped plastic case design, while the earbuds feature a stemmed design. Each headphone weighs 4.3 g, which is on the lighter side, and has a dimension of 33.01 x 20.30 x 23.15 mm. The charging case along with the buds weighs 47.3 g, and the charging case has a dimension of 65.84 x 50.45 x 24.81 mm. The Oppo Enco Free 3 comes with IP55 certification, which means it is both waterproof and dustproof and can also handle rain and sweat.


Audio 

The Oppo Enco Free 3 becomes the first earbuds in the world to use a material made of the bamboo fiber to craft the treble dome of the sound unit. The material used is 60% lighter, 56% stronger, and 63% tougher than the traditional drivers used in TWS. The craftsmanship is intended to make the hearing experience more clear and delicate, suppress distortion, and absorb excess vibration. The bamboo fiber diaphragm helps in the release of pure timbre and enhances the high-frequency performance twice. The Oppo Enco Free 3 has a 12.4 mm driver with a frequency response range of 20 Hz to 40 kHz. The speaker sensitivity of the earbuds is 107 dB at 1 GHz, and the impedance is 320 hm. Along with AAC, and SBC, the Oppo Enco Free 3 supports high-quality Bluetooth codecs like LC3 and LDAC and has Hi-Res audio with Gold Label certification. The LDAC has a transmission peak of 990 kbps and is capable of handling 96 Hz and 24 bits.


Features

For a budget earbud, the Oppo Enco Free 3 comes with a ton of features that takes them close to a premium earbud. Firstly, you can use the ear canal scanning and listening sensitivity test, to customize a sound profile for your ears within 5 minutes. The Band Compensation here is 10 Hz to 40 kHz. The improved ANC is capable of achieving 49 dB of noise reduction, which is higher than its predecessor’s 42 dB. For this industry-level breakthrough, the Oppo Enco Free 3 is TVC Rheinland certified in high-performance noise reduction. The noise reduction can even recognize various places, like indoors, on the street, or on public transportation, and intelligently match the level of noise reduction required. The earbuds are equipped with an AI-powered intelligent wind noise algorithm, which also helps in identifying and reducing wind noise interference for an immersive experience. The Oppo Enco Free 3 offers multi-device connection support, which enables you to enjoy a seamless experience on multiple devices without multiple pairings or manual switchings. For a more immersive experience, the earbuds are equipped with Oppo Alive Audio spatial sound effect, which offers eight-sided surround sound like a movie theater. The Oppo Enco Free 3 also has 47 ms Ultra-low latency for enjoying the audio experience while casual gaming.


Battery

The Oppo Enco Free 3 is equipped with a 43 mAh battery on each earbud, while the charging case has a 440 mAh battery. With ANC off, you can get up to 7 hours of music playback on the earbuds and 30 hours of backup charge with the case. When the ANC is active, you get 5.5 hours on the earbuds and 22 hours of backup with the charging case. 10 minutes of quick charging can provide you an extra 2 hours of listening time on the Oppo Enco Free 3. The earbuds along with the case take around 2 hours to get fully charged, but the Oppo Enco Free 3 does not support wireless charging.


Connectivity And Controls

The latest Bluetooth version, 5.3, has been used in the Oppo Enco Free 3, which has a range of 10 m. The Oppo Enco Free 3 has touch controls, where a single tap will play or pause the track, a double tap will play the next song, hang up, or answer a call, a triple tap will turn on the game mode or voice assistant, and a long press will toggle the ANC.

The Oppo Enco Free 3 will be available in the Chinese market from April 3, 2023, onward and is priced at CNY 499, which is roughly $72 and ₹5983. Now there is no news on the launch of the Oppo Enco Free 3 in the global market, but we are optimistic about its launch in the coming months, similar to the Oppo Enco Air 3, which just launched globally in February 2023. With so many impressive features at this competitive price, the Oppo Enco Free 3 is surely going to see demand if it goes on sale globally.
