It was back in 2021 when there were speculations that OnePlus would release its first tablet. But time went on and nothing was announced on the official website. Today at their Cloud 11 event, the company officially launched its first tablet, the OnePlus Pad, along with other products like the OnePlus 11 series and Buds Pro 2. Several specifications were revealed at the event, which has piqued the interest of technology enthusiasts. Continue reading the blog to understand what to expect from OnePlus’s first-ever tablet.
Body Design
It can be confirmed that the OnePlus Pad has a 2.5-inch curved glass screen and a unibody metal frame. The tablet’s bezels are not too thick, but they are visible. The color of the OnePlus Pad is Halo Green, similar to the OnePlus 11 series, and it is yet to be seen what other colors the company will offer. The tablet weighs around 552 g and has a premium, eye-catching design. It is only 6.54 mm thick, which makes it a great portable companion. The device has a 3.5 mm audio jack and comes with 4 stereo speakers that not only support Dolby Atmos but also have Omnibearing Sound Field Technology. The tablet includes an accelerometer, compass, proximity sensor, gyroscope, and light sensor, as well as a fingerprint sensor on the side.
Display
The OnePlus Pad comes with an IPS LCD display and not an AMOLED one, which is a bit of a bummer and can be quite a setback for the device. The tablet has an 11.6-inch display, which supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and 16 million colors. The screen resolution of the OnePlus Pad is 2800 x 2000 pixels with a screen-to-body ratio of 88%. The device comes with a 7:5 read-fit ratio, which is specifically made for the comfortable reading of e-books, documents, or web pages. With a pixel density of 296 PPI, the device has a refresh rate of a whopping 144 Hz, which is pretty amazing. The OnePlus Pad boasts a brightness of up to 500 nits and even has 2048 levels of intelligent brightness control.
Technical
The OnePlus Pad runs on a customized version of Android 13 with some added OnePlus features. Under the hood of the tablet, you will find the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, which was released in late 2021. With an architecture of 64 bits, the device has an octa-core CPU and a Mali-6710 GPU. Now the Dimensity 9000 chipset is quite powerful enough to handle multi-tasking as the company has promised, and this has been further consolidated with the addition of battery life management, app-specific smoothness, and smart temperature control. Though the OnePlus Pad has no options for expandable memory, it is offering up to 12 GB of LPDDR 5 RAM.
Keyboard And Stylus
This is probably one of the most interesting and exciting parts of the launch. Along with the OnePlus Pad in the box, accessories including a folio case, a magnetic keyboard, and a stylus will be provided to the customers without any extra charge. The chiclet-style keyboard comes with a trackpad and has the same Halo Green color as the tablet, while the color of the pencil is white and is referred to as the Stylo. With the help of compatible pins, the magnetic keyboard can be easily attached to the tablet, and the setup can be used like a mini laptop, which is quite advantageous.
Camera
The unusually large rear camera module is placed in the upper middle portion of the tablet when viewed in landscape mode. The primary lens will be 13 MP, which is adequate for a tablet, with an image resolution of 4128 x 3096 pixels. Along with a built-in LED flash, exposure compensation and ISO control can be found in the settings. Camera features include Auto Flash, Touch to Focus, Face Detection, Digital Zoom, and HDR are also present. The company has sensibly put the 8 MP selfie camera on the right bezel when the tablet is placed in landscape mode. Both the rear and front cameras are capable of recording video in 1920 x 1080 at 30 FPS.
Battery And Connectivity
The OnePlus Pad features a 9510 mAh battery and comes with a 67W charger. With a USB Type-C charging port, the device supports fast charging, and the company has promised it will take 1 hour for the tablet to reach 90% charge. The device has both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and the cellular data-sharing feature will allow you to get 5G connectivity from your smartphone.
Wrapping Up
With many tech giants entering the tablet market, it was just a matter of time for OnePlus to jump aboard the same ship. Though they had announced plans to release a tablet in 2021, it is quite refreshing to see that the plan has come to fruition and the tablet was unveiled at the Cloud 11 event. The inclusion of the keyboard and the stylus, along with the interesting specifications of the OnePlus Pad, will surely be a factor in competing against brands like Apple, Samsung, and Lenovo.
