Top 7 Series Like ‘Carnival Row’ That You Must Watch At Least Once

Following a lengthy hiatus and rumors of being shelved, the highly anticipated season 2 of Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row has premiered and is already garnering good reception. The supernatural series takes place in medieval England, where a succession of killings uncovers an inconceivable creature, a mortal investigator, as well as a fairy reigniting a hazardous romance. If you’re looking for similar suggestions, you’re at the right place, as this article explores the list of 7 Best TV Shows Like “Carnival Row.”

His Dark Materials (2019-)

The TV show is based on Philip Pullman’s best-selling novella of the same name, which itself is widely regarded as a contemporary classic of creative fiction, and centers on Lyra, an apparently regular yet courageous young lady from a distant planet. In her efforts to locate her missing companion, she learns of a dark conspiracy concerning missing kids, and her investigation into the nature of the enigmatic substance known as “dust” begins. The show wastes little time getting started, quickly developing a deep and detailed fantastical universe. Lyra’s other universe of creatures, such as dust and wizards, never rushes at the audience for them to grasp what they’re being served, and the uncertainties still enveloping the most outlandish features wind up rendering the story much more engaging.

Penny Dreadful (2016-)

Set in England in the early 19th century, Penny Dreadful follows the story of Ethan Chandler, a charismatic American bounty hunter who entertains the London public with his skill with the pistol until he is persuaded by the beautiful precognitive Vanessa Ives to aid and support her coworker Sir Malcolm Murray in exterminating a plethora of blood-sucking beasts. No vampire jargon is ever spoken, but aficionados of the series will recognize the somewhat grating style. This is the program for you if you like romantic dramas with elements of gory dread, the paranormal, creatures, witches, vampires, possessed demons, and psychosocial trauma.

Supernatural (2005-2020)

It’s among the most appealing things on television, and it follows the escapades of two siblings named Dean as well as his big brother Sam Winchester as they try to emulate their dad’s legacy and go out hunting villainous otherworldly beings like ghosts, ghouls, and changelings, and then later encounter dark forces, saints, interceptors, the grim reaper, and even Heavenly Father. Furthermore, there’s a ton of conflict that arises from the brothers’ constant bickering. Don’t be put off by the series’ length; it improves as you traverse the years and chapters.

Lucifer (2016-2021)

The show’s premise is self-explanatory: “Lucifer,” dissatisfied with his existence in heaven, leaves the underworld and arrives in the city of lights and dreams, Los Angeles, to enjoy the pleasures of mortal life. His presence on the surface allows him to learn about humankind and aid them. With the use of his ability, he is able to reveal people’s innermost intentions. Together with Detective Decker, Lucifer keeps helping fellow humans, eventually rising to the position of LAPD advisor and Decker’s paramour. It’s fictitious; however, it does raise many interesting questions about the Scripture. Christians shouldn’t be turned off by the moniker since it really helps you grow your faith.

Ripper Street (2012-2016)

As you might’ve guessed, the series is inspired by the gruesome serial killer who walked the streets of London during the late 18th century, killing prostitutes. After a yearlong spree of terror, the people of London have finally found calm and are confident that they can finally stroll the streets without the fear of getting stabbed in the heart. Detective Superintendent Edmund Reid, an honest and brilliant investigator plagued by a previous error that culminated in disaster, is one of the optimistic officers of the H Department, the policemen entrusted with ensuring peace in the area. While attempting to maintain justice in the town, Reid is sucked into Medieval London’s murky clandestine underground, where every other killing sparks fears that the psychotic killer has returned.

Vampire Diaries (2009-)

Vampire fiction has long been a favorite of mine, and this saga did not disappoint. Like all good paranormal romances, the one involving Elena Gilbert, Stefan Salvatore, and Damon Salvatore exceeded expectations. Elena, a charming and sexy blond, catches Stefan’s eye when he arrives in the mysterious town of Mystic Falls. Stefan is a brave, steadfast, sympathetic, and gorgeous sibling. He feels an instinctive pull toward Elena, and so he goes back to his family’s mansion in Mystic Falls, a quiet community with numerous prominent houses that all share dark histories and links to a shady past.

The Originals (2013-)

The TV show follows Klaus Mikaelson, Elijah Mikaelson, and Rebekah Mikaelson as they attempt to reclaim New Orleans, a town that was once beneath Klaus’s authority but that he abandoned after his dad’s return, from his erstwhile protégé and now ruler Marcel. Well, I truncated the narrative, but only because I didn’t want to ruin anything for you.
