HBO Max’s “The Last of Us” is an accurate rendition of the highly renowned video game published by Naughty Dog. The series chronicles Joel and Ellie’s adventures as they make their way through a civilization devastated by a nasty virus that transforms healthy individuals into flesh-hungry zombies. The camera work and staging in this series are excellent, and they do a great job of recreating the grim, urban feel of the digital title. The cast’s exceptional portrayals, led by Pedro Pascal in the role of Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, are a sight for sore eyes.
In the last episode, we see Joel finally embrace his brother, Tommy Miller, and learnt that he has married someone and thus won’t be joining Joel on his trip. After coming to terms with both his brother and Ellie, Joel leaves for the South in search of Firefly headquarters, but things spiral out of control as he’s attacked and severely wounded by a raider.

‘The Last Of Us’ Season 1 Episode 7: A Brief Rundown Of The Plot
Both Joel and Ellie’s nightmares are about to come true, as seen in the latest episode, where the audience sees Joel wrapped in Ellie’s jacket and losing a ton of blood from his last encounter with the raiders inhabiting an abandoned hospital. The duo was about to leave the premises, but unfortunately, Joel was attacked and stabbed. Joel, fearing that he could die anytime, shoves Ellie away and begs her to run away to the north to find Tommy. Seeing the man who was supposed to protect her all the way lying helpless and in a pool of blood scared her and likewise triggered a past memory.
Ellie used to attend the military preparatory school and often got in trouble for being insubordinate and creating trouble for herself and others at school. It was the school, where Ellie made good friends with Riley, who loved running away from the preparatory school and had joined “Fireflies.” Ellie loved hanging out with Riley, and even though she hated it, she sometimes joined her in her escapades of climbing out of the window and escaping through fire escapes. Fireflies became the talk of the town after the world was sent into chaos, attracting many who hated FEDRA for being fascists and mass murdering innocents just based on mere suspicions to join their ranks. One day, Riley sneaks into the facility and asks Ellie to tag along for the night. The duo took the trip to an abandoned mall, which still surprisingly had power. Riley had never been to a mall and had trouble wrapping her head around the fact that there used to be magical stairs (escalators) and uncomfortable leggings for people to wear. But in reality, she desperately wishes to live in a time when everything is normal, there are no clickers or zombies, and people aren’t murdering each other for supplies. For her, it would be a blessing to see a world where she could enjoy little things like drinking wine, taking horse rides in carnivals, snapping pictures in photo booths, and playing Mortal Kombat at the arcade. In reality, Riley was posted at this mall and was guarding the weapon stash. She brought Ellie here since it was her last night in Boston, and she was going away forever.
But little did they know that the mall they had chosen for their little gateway had been harboring a clicker. The cordyceps branches spanned the underground, altering the dynamics of their presence. The clicker appeared from nowhere and chased the duo through the mall. Ellie and Riley try to shove the zombie away but are bitten in the process. Ellie screams her heart out, not knowing that she’s actually immune to the cordyceps virus. Unfortunately, Riley was also bitten. Realizing that she had very little time left, the duo rejects the idea of killing one another and decides to spend whatever time they have left together, smiling. Even though the show has yet to reveal Riley’s death, it is obvious that she succumbed to the infection, as unlike her friend, she wasn’t immune.
Back at present, Ellie manages to procure bandages, needles, and stitches for Joel’s wound, and the episode concludes with an optimistic score suggesting Joel will be alright.
