“Avengers: Infinity War” was Thanos’ story. He defeated the Avengers and fulfilled his goal of wiping away half of the universe. The only reason the Avengers won, in the end, was because of time travel. Without it, they wouldn’t have been able to reverse Thanos’ wish. So he is the most powerful and interesting villain the MCU has introduced till now. He’s also iconic and has become a part of pop culture. After all, even now, we see replies like “Thanos was right” about him wiping away half the universe in various comment sections. But now, Kang the Conqueror is coming for Thanos’ crown. However, how different will the new purple villain be from the old purple villain? The writer for “Avengers: Kang Dynasty” has clarified the differences between the two cosmic villains. “The Avengers 5” writer discusses the differences between Kang and Thanos.
In an interview with “GamesRadar,” Jeff Loveness, the writer for “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” discussed what separates Kang from Thanos. The writer said that humanity is the difference between the two. So even though Thanos is an iconic MCU villain, he’s also a huge CGI guy and an alien who came from outer space. Due to this, he is presented as being detached from humanity. As a result, the writer wanted to go the opposite way with Kang. He decided to focus on his human and vulnerable side. He said that he wanted to establish Kang’s humanity before he battled the new Avengers team. He also mentioned a unique characteristic of Kang—that he’s lonely—and hinted that we would be seeing various sides of him going forward.
Loveness also hyped-up Kang by saying that he’s “infinite Thanos,” referring to the villain’s ability to exist in every timeline and manipulate time according to his wishes. So, he’s as powerful as Thanos but multiplied by infinity. As such, he’s unstoppable. He also said that Kang is an “A-list” top-tier villain for the Avengers. In the end, he assured fans that Marvel Studios was setting things up to tell a very dynamic story and create an unforgettable villain for this generation. Kang is a complicated villain.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Kang actor Jonathan Majors said that Kang was motivated by frustration and pain over the world and its societies. In another interview, “Ant-Man 3” director Peyton Reed said that Kang’s experiences had shaped his personality. Also, since he can see the past, present, and future, he knows exactly what to say and what gestures to use. So, he’s precise, and there’s no wasted breath from his side. This sets him apart from previous villains, especially Thanos. The wielder of the gauntlet was powerful, and he brought the Avengers down to their knees. But even then, he’s no match for Kang, who is a master of time. Fans have deduced that he is obviously escaping the Quantum Realm in “Ant-Man 3.” So, it remains to be seen how he challenges the new team of Avengers.
The Role Of Magic In Defeating Kang
Kang is all set to be an iconic villain. It will be incredibly difficult for the Avengers to defeat a being who can transcend time and space. Also, he knows every move before one makes it. So how will the Avengers take on such a threat? There’s already rampant speculation that the Avengers will go to other Earths in “Avengers: Secret Wars” and recruit heroes like the Foxverse’s X-Men and Fantastic Four to fight with them. It’s rumored that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Jessica Alba’s Sue Storm, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, and others will join the battle against Kang. Also, many fans have theorized that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America/Human Torch are returning as well. But even with them on the team, it won’t be easy to defeat Kang. This is why Marvel Studios is reportedly bolstering the magic side of the MCU for this.
There are rumors that “Doctor Strange 3” and a Disney+ tv series based on the Strange Academy Marvel comics are getting fast-tracked at Marvel Studios. There’s speculation that the company plans to release them before “Avengers: Secret Wars.” This urgency has surprised many fans because one of the issues with “Doctor Strange 2” was its rushed production, which was reflected in the finished product as well. However, if Marvel Studios is rushing it, then maybe magic will play a prominent role in defeating Kang.
After all, it has been prophesied that the Scarlet Witch will be the one to either rule or annihilate the cosmos or reality. As such, if there’s someone who has a chance of defeating Kang, it’s her. Together with Doctor Strange and other magic users, the Avengers will have a good chance against the villain. As such, maybe magic is the secret weapon to defeat Kang. Also, since Kang is a tech-oriented villain, magic will be a great counterpoint to him. How will it all play out? We will get the first hint of it when “Ant-Man 3” premieres on February 17, 2023.
