What do you anticipate from a horror film? Obviously, you expect jumpscares, a lot of screams, a lot of haunted music, and a very scary ghost that would leave you sleepless. However, director Christopher Landon has decided to change all your perceptions with a modern-day comic twist with the upcoming Netflix film “We Have a Ghost.” Based on Geoff Manaugh’s 2017 fictional short story “Ernest,” the film is an interesting watch. We see a family moving to a so-called haunted house, where instead of being scared of the house ghost, the family starts recording the ghosts’ moments and gets instant fame on social media. Well, of course, the ghost tried to scare the family off in the beginning; however, this weird family ended up befriending the ghost. Interesting right?Â
Horror-comedy films are gaining momentum, and we have been blessed to witness how the genre is getting better with each passing day. “We Have a Ghost” is a wonderfully crafted film, and here is everything you need to know before the film releases on Netflix.
‘We Have A Ghost’ Plot
Imagine you have moved to a new house—well, technically, an old house—where you have decided to live, and you find a ghost. As upsetting as it may sound to you, the Presley family thinks it’s their golden ticket to move into a haunted house. The film instantly shifts from scary to comic the moment you witness the son of the family recording the ghost.
The story is about the weird relationship and bond that forms between the family that has shifted to the haunted house and the ghost in it. The old house is famous for being haunted, and weird, scary sounds are heard during the night. The son, Kevin (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), went on inspecting the source of the weird sound and found Ernest (David Harbour)—the ghost. Instead of being scared or intimidated, Kevin finds Ernest amusing and captures him on his cell phone. The next day Kevin breaks the news about their new home being haunted by his father. His father, Frank (Anthony Mackie), too, finds the news exhilarating. Soon, the family became a social media sensation as they started posting footage of Ernest.
Well, by now, the family is really close to Ernest. However, Kevin wants to find out what happened to Ernest. As Ernest cannot speak, the duo finds it challenging to discover Ernest’s past. To add to their misery, they become CIA targets for trying to find out the truth. Pandemonium follows as soon as Ernest leaves the building. Ernest would surely be mobbed if he were human and couldn’t walk through walls or humans. The trailer also gave us glimpses of how Kevin and Ernest knew how to make practical jokes to scare people away. In a nutshell, a movie that apparently is a horror-comedy finds a way to be a family drama. We are sure to laugh a lot, and at the same time, we might want a box of tissues—just in case, you know!
