“The Last of Us” is going great, and fans love every second of it, from its brilliant worldbuilding to its multi-layered characters. Many are even calling the show a perfect homage to the 2013 masterpiece distributed by Naughty Dog Studio exclusively for the PlayStation console. In the last episode, we see Joel and Ellie making their way to see Bill and his lover Frank. After fleeing Baltimore years ago, Frank finds his way to the home of eccentric loner Bill, who unwillingly welcomes him in. Bill feeds him, offers him wine, and even listens to him play his favorite song on his old and dusty piano, signaling a romantic relationship. After some time, Frank uses the wireless to get in touch with Tess, and the duo forms an uneasy alliance. Sadly, Frank was suffering from a terminal disease and asked his lover to help him so that he could die peacefully in his arms. No doubt, Bill decides to follow him as they both breathe their last in one another’s embrace. Joel arrives at Bill’s house and finds the letter his old friend has left in his name.

‘The Last Of Us’ Season 1 Episode 4: A Brief Rundown Of The Plot
Following a long drive, Joel and Ellie decide to set up camp in the woods, and we finally see Joel bonding with Ellie, responding to her quirky jokes while, at the same time, chastising her on the folly of her ideas to make fire. After a peaceful sleep under the stars, the duo resumes their drive, and Joel fills her in on Tommy, who was for a while a part of the “Fireflies.” Tommy’s last contact came through a radio tower close to Cody, a settlement deep inside Wyoming, a state heavily infested by the zombie population. Tommy was a joiner and dreamt of becoming a hero, so he registered in the army right out of high school. Sadly, a week later, he was sent to Desert Storm. After the Cordyceps outbreak, Tommy convinces Joel to join a group traveling toward Boston, and the latter complies. Joel mostly agreed because he couldn’t afford to lose another loved one like he lost his daughter Sarah. Joel met Marlene, who tried to talk him into joining Fireflies, but Joel turned her down, as he believed there was no hope left in this dying world, and no matter what we do, we will never slow down the impending inevitable. But Ellie begs to differ, as she thinks that eventually, the world will pick itself back up again, no matter how bad things get. Unfortunately, their journey is cut short when the duo is attacked by a group of raiders. Joel is cornered, prompting Ellie to come to his rescue.
This episode highlighted the idea that people can become more dangerous and sinister if all hell breaks loose. Zombies are mindless killers that swarm everything that breathes or moves. When chaos ensues, people can turn evil when faced with anxiety and despair. Some people may grow cruel and be ready to do anything to thrive in an anarchic society, and Joel and Ellie are being tracked by one such group. The leader of the group, Kathleen, has swarmed the town looking for Henry and his little brother Sam, and Joel and Ellie were unlucky enough to walk into the ambush. Henry is one of the titular characters of the Naughty Dog video game, whereas the character of Kathleen was freshly created for the TV adaptation. Henry hails from Hartford and has managed to survive this long alongside his little brother Sam. Henry looked out for Sam so much that he sometimes failed to realize Sam’s level of understanding and competence in dangerous circumstances. It’s not hard to see the parallels between Joel and Henry; both will do anything to protect their loved ones from harm. The advent of these new characters like Bill, Henry, and Sam is significant because it demonstrates that friendship can blossom in the direst of circumstances, even in a world with no hope or humanity.
