‘The Last Of Us’ Season 1 Episode 1: A Brief Rundown Of The Pilot Episode
If you’ve had the luck of trying the masterpiece published by “Naughty Dog” for PlayStation 4, you realize that “The Last of Us” is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Just like the video games, the series follows the story of Joel and Ellie as they strive hard to survive in a broken world. Joel is a happy and hardworking man living in Austin, Texas dividing his hours between his work and his daughter Sarah, so he can give her everything she ever wanted. Sarah, Joel’s daughter, steals some money to repair Joel’s watch and gifts it to him on his birthday, along with a borrowed DVD of his favorite movie. Austin has been in turmoil and has witnessed emergency vehicles and police cruisers skimming the streets since morning. Joel’s birthday celebration is cut short when he receives a call from his brother Tommy, who begs him to bail him out of jail. After Joel tucks Sarah into her bed, he leaves to bail his brother out of jail and returns to find Sarah about to be devoured by her old neighbor, who has turned into a flesh-hungry zombie due to an infection caused by the “Cordyceps virus.” The town has gone mad; people are running for their lives, flights are plummeting to the ground, and the military is gunning down everyone who they believe to be infected. And the same happens with Joel, as his daughter is gunned down and dies in his arms. The story takes a decade-long leap, and we see Joel has bargained with his morals and principles and has no problem torching bodies to survive. He’s saving money to buy a car battery so that he can go look for his brother Tommy who went AWOL weeks ago. Joel’s search brings him and his partner, Tess, to Marlene, the leader of a group named “Fireflies,” who plans to smuggle Ellie out of the contaminated zone. Unfortunately, Marlene is wounded and asks Joel to carry out the job in return for weapons, rations, supplies, and cars loaded with fuel so he can look for his brother. Joel agrees and decides to sneak out of the zone at night but is held at gunpoint by a FEDRA guard. The guard checks them for infection, and the duo learns that Ellie was bitten three weeks ago but hasn’t turned. The guard was about to pull the trigger, and Sarah’s death flashed before Joel’s eyes. With no choice left, Joel jumps on the guard and beats him to a pulp, showing Ellie who he really is. Joel has a complicated personality since he is a wonderful guy who has been driven to do horrific deeds to survive. His life will never be the same again after witnessing the brutal death of Sarah. He still carries the wristwatch she gifted him two decades ago, regardless of the fact that it is damaged and cracked.
