What Happens In The Film?
The movie opens with Susana and Elvira, two friends, in Goa, India, which happened two years ago. They had a huge fight during that trip and drifted apart since then. Currently, Susana runs a Wedding Planning Company, and Elvira is a manager of the pop star Macarena. Soon, we get to know that Susana and Elvira have to come together once again to save their careers from falling apart. This time, they have to plan a celebrity wedding concert together that is going to save them both.
Why Are Susana And Elvira Not On Talking Terms?
Even though Susana and Elvira are two friends who are in their forties, they differ in terms of their maturity. Their trip to India proved this conjecture correct because both the women want separate things in life. I like to believe that Susana is more sorted between the two of them because she always has a plan to follow. On the other hand, Elvira is more of the carefree type; she does not really care about things in life until they turn serious or put her in danger. While in India, Susana had a list of activities, like meditations, that she wanted to attend with Elvira, but as stated earlier, Elvira is not into these types of things. She is more into partying and living a life without many responsibilities. Unlike Elvira, Susana is not petrified of aging, which is why her plans are different from those of Elvira’s. No, I am not age-shaming Elvira, but during that trip, she could have cared a little bit more about what her friend wanted instead of being self-centered. This is the main reason for their dispute, and they still hold grudges against each other, which becomes evident from their fight on the karaoke night. They refer to things from the past and constantly blame each other without resolving their differences calmly. Both of them have not been on talking terms for two years, and now that they have to work things out as a team which is causing a lot of chaos between them.
Why Is Susana Distraught?
Everyone has different ambitions in life, and for some people, becoming a loving parent is one of them. We already know that Susana wants to have a life that she can commit to. She longs for stability in her life and believes that a kid can bring that and loving a child unconditionally is on her wishlist. Susana knows that she is not young enough to start over, but at the same time, she ain’t old enough to give up as well. Unlike Elvira, who does not want kids in her life, Susana wants to become a mother. Since her trip to India, she has been sober and on prenatals to keep herself in check. However, her dreams shatter when she gets to know that her boyfriend, Manuel, has to leave for his duty as a conflict doctor in Ukraine. At first, she thinks that things will become alright when he returns, but unfortunately, Manuel breaks up with her on a video call. He was the only hope for the samples required for her baby, but he breaks his promise all of a sudden. Susana already has a lot of things going on in her life. She is going through a financial crisis because she spent all the money of her company to set up the wedding of her previous client, Alaska Trousseau, only for it to get cancelled. Now, she has promised to book Naio for the celebrity wedding of Chano and Macarena, which isn’t going very well. On top of all these, she has to deal with her breakup with Manuel as well; in short, luck is not in her favor for the time being. She is completely distraught and does not know what will happen next.
What Is The Secret That Elvira Wants To Hide?
There are certain secrets that can ruin people’s lives, and Elvira knows it well. She does not want to jeopardize her client, Macarena’s life. Macarena is a young pop star, and she is just going to begin her new journey with the love of her life, Chano. She definitely does not want some unknown secrets to ruin her life, but there is one that leaves her devastated. Chano had a one-night stand with one of the drummers of the group named Laura, and he cannot get it off his chest. Even though Elvira tries to shut him up for good, he is guilty because he did his partner wrong. Throughout the wedding planning, he is worried about the secret, but it is not as if he wants to hide it from Macarena. When his fiancee finally gets to know about it, she is heartbroken and confused. Macarena asks Elvira about what she should do next, and being the older and wiser one, Elvira tells her to follow her instincts.
Is Cheating Really Justified?
What Chano did to Macarena was absolutely wrong. She is right when she says that if he can cheat once, he can cheat again as well. I believe asking for Elvira’s advice is a dumb move because she herself does not know where life is taking her. Elvira herself is whimsical enough and not at all suitable for such suggestions. I am proved right when she indirectly justifies cheating by stating that people cheat because they are broken, scared, or immature. Well, I believe that people cheat because they CHOOSE to do so. Nobody forces someone to cheat on their partner, and if they do get influenced by someone else’s attractiveness, then they did not ever love their partner in the first place. Although Macarena forgives Chano, I believe it could have been written in a better way. Through this act of forgiveness, the writer of the film justifies cheating and Elvira’s philosophical dialogue is not at all poetic to me. Macarena should have left Chano and found someone who is better. She is still young, talented, and has a long way to go, but still decides to bind herself to a cheater. Yes, to err is human, but cheating on your partner is a crime that does not deserve a second chance, I think.
Is Rodolfo The Villain All Along?
Rodolfo is a man of extreme ego, and he does not want Elvira to take his spotlight. He proudly claimed that Chano became famous because of him, and now, if Elvira becomes successful in conducting the wedding concert, she may very well steal his popularity. Since he does not want this at all, he can go to any extent to sabotage the entire wedding. It is Rodolfo who leaks Elvira’s footage of breaking into the private office to Gustavo, and he does not stop here. He also conveys to Macarena that Elvira slept with Chano to ruin her relationship with her manager. He is an arrogant man; his passive-aggressive behavior – when he gets fired by Chano – says a lot about him. Rodolfo has a controlling attitude, and he thinks that he can make anyone dance on his instructions. I had a hunch since the beginning that this man was up to no good and could only spew nonsense when he himself hated it.
What Happens To Susana And Elvira In The End?
In the end, Elvira clears it up with Gustavo that Susana never persuaded her to break into his office; instead, she did it to save the entire wedding concert situation. Although Manuel returns from Ukraine with his samples and everything, Susana turns him down because she knows he is not doing it of his own will. On the other hand, the movie suggests that Gustavo can be the new donor for her baby. Elvira and Susana promise to stay by each other’s side no matter what, and Elvira tells her that she will be happy to help her with the baby, except for the diapers. They end on a good note, confessing their love to one another.
