There is no trailer available, but the makers posted a teaser on January 12. The short clip begins with John Luther’s cold face arising from the inky blackness, decked in his classic formal suit. The teaser is less than half a minute creating suspense and tension with the resonating sound in the backdrop. The creepy setting foretells that Luther is probably cooped up, and the door of the prison opens and shuts, generating a strident sound throughout. Soon the deafening music fizzles out, and there is an intimidating voice-over that says that something is going to be unfurled – fingers crossed!

The viewers have been clamoring for a sequel to John Luther since he last appeared on screen in 2019 in the BBC’s crime thriller titled “Luther,” for which he won the Golden Globe Award as well. Idris Elba (Luther) will reprise the role for one last time in the upcoming “Luther: The Fallen Sun” show. He plays DCI John Luther, a superb inspector general who is falsely accused of killing and eventually manages to escape the country. Elba’s breakthrough occurred in the crime-action drama “The Wire” aired on HBO, where he played the drug lord in three consecutive seasons. He signed up for comedy projects like “The Big C,” “The Office,” “In A Long Run,” “Turn Up Charlie,” etc. The Primetime Emmy Award nominee has been in some significant leading roles in “Obsessed,” “Daddy’s Little Girls,” “Christmas,” “Yardie,” and “RocknRolla .”Elba followed his passion and joined as a successful DJ with Black Entertainment Television. The supporting cast includes Ruth Wilson and Henry Hereford. Wilson, the English star the protagonist of “Jane Eyre” will play the role of Alice Morgan, a psycho-killer, in the forthcoming film. She has paved her way through her acting in “Locke,” “Dark River,” “Suburban Shootout,” “Anna Karenina,” “True Things,” “The Affair,” and so on. The Grammy award-winning singer Cynthia Erivo who previously worked in “The Outsider,” “Harriet,” “Widows,” and “The Color Purple,” will portray Odette Raine in “Luther: The Fallen Sun.” Along with Andy Serkis (as David Robey), the cast also includes Lauryn Ajufo (as Anya Raine), Hattie Morahan (as Corinne Aldrich), Jess Liaudin (as Nilsson), Natasha Patel (as Lydia), Thomas Coombes (as Archie Woodward) and many more. Serkis, as David Robey, will perform the movie’s antagonist, a business tycoon and mass murderer who has the technical power to spy on innocent people and kill them. The British screenwriter Neil Cross has penned down the script for the sequel. “The Alienist” director Jamie Payne has helmed “Luther: The Fallen Sun”; he is also popular for his amazing directorial for “Outlander,” “Invasion,” “Doctor Who,” “The White Princess,” and several others. Under BBC Studios and Chernin Entertainment, the murder mystery has been produced by Peter Chernin, David Ready, and Jenno Topping, alongside Neil Cross and Elba. Brendan Ferguson, Dan Finlay, Priscilla Parish, Kris Thykier, and Miki Emmerich are members of the executive production team. The renowned cinematographers Larry Smith and Tom Stern did the photography for “Luther: The Fallen Sun.”

“Luther: The Fallen Sun” will be released in selected theaters on February 24. The highly anticipated thriller will have its worldwide digital release on March 10, 2023, on Netflix, confirmed by Idris Elba himself. The Netflix Original show, rated R, will have a refreshing plotline in connection with the previously broadcasted show “Luther” (2010-2019). The filming had taken place across London, England and Brussels and was wrapped up by 2022. It is high time to become intimately familiar with the culture of London, as “Luther: The Fallen Sun” is about to meet its final installment.
