How about a story where you already know that everything is falsified, yet you are right there to eyeball it until the secret is solved? Think of waking up every morning and catching a train to reach the office so that you can earn for the rest of the month. But in “Farzi,” the hero, Shahid Kapoor(Sunny), doesn’t have such a conventional life; thus, he decides to make money, quite literally instead- sounds freaky, right? This is the first Hindi project for the Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, the lawman who is way too determined to wipe out black money, marketing malpractices, and corruption from the system and who will take up the case of Sunny. “Farzi,” the Persian word, means something fake. Who is the real “Farzi” in this dark comedy series—will it be the socioeconomic inequalities, the failed economy, or Sunny, who just dreamt of a successful life?
‘Farzi’ Plot
The trailer for “Farzi” got released on January 13, with so many mysteries and masterminds within. The storyline focuses on how Michael (Vijay Sethupati), a police task force officer, knits a trap for Sunny (Shahid Kapoor), a street artist who prints counterfeit notes and thinks of himself as the scapegoat of the whole system. The trailer starts with Sunny in his full swag, lying on a bed full of hard cash. According to him, if the human-made standard protocols cannot be changed, then make your own game to the fullest. Sunny wishes to make so much money that he doesn’t have to show respect for it anymore. He belongs to a simple Indian family with a reflective mind who simply wants to conquer everything. Every artist has his individuality, a flair that is only owned by him. The dream is to have a gold iPhone, a gold chain, and a lifelike Ludacris; thus, Sunny, the con artist, learns the basics of making fake banknotes and believes that he can make replicas of anything. The cat-and-mouse game between the force officer and conman is going to be unique, stressful, and electrifying. In the trailer, Vijay and Shahid are not seen in one frame but in their habitat, doing what they do best. The trailer is packed with loaded guns, action, shinplasters, lots of sarcasm, scams, dialogues, and dark humor that will leave you craving for more. The cops are astonished to see the design skills of the scammer and therefore form a team for the operation to untangle the web Sunny had woven. Whosoever said that money could not bring you happiness is too wrong in Sunny’s perspective – eventually, it is a fact that to enjoy all the luxurious things, you need to have a pocket filled with enough finances. Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. (Raj & DK), well-known filmmakers, rose to fame for the direction of “The Family Man,” the amazing spy-thriller series on Amazon Prime. The duo is coming back on screen with “Farzi,” an amazing thriller series in the making with a stellar cast. The lead actors include Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, and Raashi Khanna. The super-talented, handsome Indian actor Shahid Kapoor is popular worldwide for his role in “Haider” (2014), based on the Shakespearian drama “Hamlet.” “Padmavat,” “Jab We Met,” and “Udta Punjab” are some of the blockbusters he worked on. Vijay Sethupati, the Tamil actor and producer known as “Makkal Selvan,” will make his entry in this web series as Michael. The Tamil actress Raashi Khanna from “Madras Cafe” will play the role of the lead female protagonist in “Farzi.” In addition to the main cast, the series features some actors with great potentials, such as Regina Cassandra, Prammod Sanghi, Kay Kay Menon, Kubbra Sait, Bhuvan Arora, Amol Palekar, and Zakir Hussain. On April 28, 2022, Prime Video’s official Twitter page posted the first snap of “Farzi,” where Shahid Kapoor, with his bold appearance, is seen working while seated on a chair. In extolling the series, host Karan Johar in Mumbai stated that the plot is so massive that it required two megastars, denoting Shahid Kapoor from Bollywood and Vijay Sethupathi from Tamil production.
Release Date
The highly anticipated web series will be released on February 10, 2023, on Amazon Prime Video. The trailer for “Farzi” received 1.4 million views in just two hours after its release. The show is going to mark the debut of Shahid Kapoor on the OTT platform over eight episodes. The crime-thriller will leave the fans overwhelmed, with the notion that everything happening around them is fictitious except the trailer.
