Lee Sung Jin has undoubtedly created a genius show that you must not miss. Not to mention, you might find it hard not to fall in love with the protagonists, played by Steven Yeun (Danny Cho) and Ali Wong (Amy Lau). The ending of this ten-episode-long season of “Beef” will enrapture you in the most surreal way possible. If you have an appetite for dark comedy, you must watch this series. The hilarious series is on Netflix and features two of the best young actors: Jessica Barden as Alyssa and Alex Lawther as James. The story is based on two teenagers. While James thinks his life is a sad piece of whoopsies, Alyssa thinks she is a psychopath. The two teens deal with their issues (at least try to do so) and constantly get in the middle of some new problem. From course language to condescending behaviors, the serious portrays everything wrong in the right way. It is funny how the series will entice you to keep watching until the very end.
Fleabag (2016)
If you think people patronize you for being a woman, you should watch “Fleabag.” Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a woman with dry wit running through every nerve in her body, and her character in the series is likewise. She is messy and weird, and the series breaks the fourth wall so gracefully, as if you and Fleabag are long-lost friends. From rejection to losses, from mental breakdowns to intense breakups, the series has everything in store for you. Also, you will get to see the “other side” of a priest that will leave a very deep imprint on you.
Dead To Me (2019)
It is fair to say that when you are in love, your partner is to blame for everything that is wrong with you. On personal levels, we know that partners know the correct ways to pull strings that will infuriate you. However, there is still no way you could hate them. In this series, we see friendships between two women, who should have been enemies for murdering the other’s husband. There are a plethora of instances where you would feel like a terrible end is approaching, but it all dances to the comical tune. The protagonists, Christina Applegate (Jen Hardings) and Linda Cardellini (Judy Hale) are best friends goals. Jen is hot-headed and never backs down from a good fight, and Judy is timid and forgiving. The hilarious show is a must-watch if you haven’t already.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
We cannot deny how beautiful Kaley Cuoco is. But what we must appreciate is her comic timing and her acting skills. If you have watched “The Big Bang Theory,” Penny is a star. Similarly, in “The Flight Attendant,” she is the star. The story revolves around a young and carefree flight attendant. She works hard and parties harder (with drugs, alcohol, and anything else you could think of). The story begins to take an interesting turn as soon as she wakes up from a party one morning and finds a dead body beside her. Clueless about what happened and why she was in such a situation, she decides to get to the bottom of the story. The crisis is immense, but the series will make you laugh and secretly might question your humor as well.
Crashing (2016)
If you liked Phoebe Waller-Bridge in “Fleabag,” you must watch “Crashing.” The hilarious dark series is about six individuals who began living in an abandoned hospital. These six people, all in their twenties, met through a housing scheme. The story revolves around them stepping into adult life and experiencing love, responsibilities, and struggles at close quarters.
The Boys (2019)
If you grew up loving superhero movies, this series is about to blow your mind. In “The Boys” universe, superheroes have no secret missions, nor are they your friendly neighbors. You see them everywhere, every time. All these heroes have very dark intentions and are not as mighty and generous as they usually are. Although, you might feel “The Boys” rightly pointed out how humans would behave if they actually have superpowers. Humans are mostly greedy and power-hungry. Thus, instead of helping anyone in need, they would use the power to satisfy their greed and need. This series makes the superheroes look more human than you ever considered them to be.
Bojack Horseman (2014)
“Bojack Horseman” is the most acclaimed cartoon series and the peak example of dark comedy. The series interestingly talks about deep existential questions in a comical way that will move you. The series focuses on 90s sitcom star Bojack and his washed-up career as he tries to fathom the changes and be a part of them.
