Monster Pabrik Rambut Ending Explained: What Is Ms Maryati’s Secret?

“Monster Pabrik Rambut” is a horror fantasy film that is directed by Edwin. It is also known as “Sleep No More” because the entire movie is about a dark entity that latches onto people who are sleep-deprived. It makes its victims go through sleepless nights before ultimately consuming them. Putri, Ida and Bona, the three siblings, would not have come across the demon if not for their mother, Agustina.  Agustina’s workplace, The Evergreen Factory, claimed that she died by suicide, but Ida has her fair share of doubts. The two sisters start to work at the same factory and find more truth about its boss, Ms Maryati, and her employees.

Why Do Putri And Ida Take Up Jobs At The Evergreen Factory?

Putri and Ida have no father figure in their lives; they have to take care of themselves after their mother’s death. Their mother used to work overtime at the Evergreen Factory to pay off her debts; now the sisters will have to clear their mother’s pending dues. Putri, being the older sibling, decides to take up the job at the factory to support her family. Although she is bitter about her job because it is now her duty to clear the debts, she still wants to provide for her family. On the other hand, Ida, who was a class topper, has a different reason for taking up a job at the factory. She believes Agustina did not commit suicide; she was possessed by something while she was working overtime. Since the very beginning, Ida has had a hunch that her mother did not want to kill herself, and it was some other supernatural entity that forced her to commit suicide. Ida does not know how to prove herself to her sister, but she has to fulfill the job by hook or by crook. Both Putri and Ida also have to look after their adopted brother, Bona. Putri does not like Bona because he is not their biological brother. Besides, Bona has a great power- he can regrow all his limbs in case they are chopped off. This is the main reason why he is the one who is targeted every time by their debt collectors. They would chop off his ear as a punishment for Agustina’s failure to pay them, and it would grow back each time. Unlike Putri, Ida has a soft corner for Bona, and she cannot let him suffer like this. Hence, both the sisters decide to work at the factory just like their mother did.

What Is Happening To The Employees?

The Evergreen Factory is a notorious place because the boss, Ms Maryati, forces the workers to work overtime by luring them with extra money. However, what the employees do not know is that the factory has a dark entity living inside it. This supernatural being, which is essentially a demon, possesses anyone who is sleep-deprived and works overtime for a few nights. There was once a case of mass possession in the factory after a worker cut off his leg, triggering a chain reaction. Agustina was another victim of the demon; she fell to her death inside a boiler after being possessed by it. Now, Mrs Sri and Tohar, other workers at the factory, are the demon’s new victims. Tohar spends sleepless nights and continues to work for four days straight. He only gets back to his senses after he gouges out his eyeball while being possessed. The astonishing fact is that Ms Maryati knows about the possessions of her workers, but she does not take any steps to save them. It is revealed that whoever gets possessed is taken to Ms Maryati’s office, where she talks to the person, pats them, and calms them down. However, this is not a solution because, while being possessed, the people harm themselves. They either kill themselves or damage one of their body parts; the same thing happens to Mrs. Sri as well. She distorts one side of her face completely after banging it against a tray full of needles used for separating hair strands while making wigs. Even after all the damage, the employees return to work at the factory willingly. It is as if Ms Maryati has absolute control over all of them.

What Is Ms Maryati’s Secret?

When Ms Maryati was a kid, she used to collect her mother’s long hair strands that fell off. It is not shown how, but after she collected a significant amount of hair, Ms Maryati invited a demon as her friend. She probably did not know that it was a demon, but after her mother’s death at the hands of the same dark entity,  she eventually understood its true nature. As the boss of the factory, she keeps the demon inside and lets it possess her employees. Perhaps the demon needs human sacrifice to sustain itself. Ms Maryati has known about its presence the whole time, but she carefully denies the truth when she is interrogated by Ida and Putri. Since the demon requires humans and their body parts to survive, Ms Maryati uses Bona. She gets to know that Bona has the power to regenerate his body parts; hence, she lures him with money and uses his body parts to satiate the demon. Bona agrees to her proposal because he cannot live with being tortured by the debt collectors anymore, and he wants to pay off the money as soon as possible.

Does Ida Prove Her Theory About The Demon?

Ida becomes successful in proving her theory about the demon after she gets possessed by it herself. At first, Putri did not believe in Ida’s hypothesis about their mother’s death, but when she notices her sister going through the same predicament, she starts to believe in its presence. In fact, Putri witnesses the demon with her own eyes. When Ida gets possessed, Putri tries her best to shake her out of it, but it becomes difficult. Nevertheless, Putri helps Ida to snap out of the possession and shares the entire incident with another colleague, Rudi. They decide to face the demon and finish it, but before they execute the idea, Rudi jumps off the factory terrace while singing because he, too, gets possessed. When the police come to investigate, they find that Rudi’s legs are missing- it is as if somebody has chopped them off at the knees.

What Happens To Putri, Ida And Bona In The End?

After Rudi’s unfortunate death, Putri and Ida cannot sit still anymore. They have a meeting with other workers who have been possessed, and they decide to confront Ms Maryati because, unlike everybody else, she never got targeted by the demon. They strap Ms. Maryati to a chair and force her to tell the truth. Meanwhile, Bona almost gets consumed by the demon because he has severed every part of his body, and now his head is the only thing that remains. Ms. Maryati says that since she is getting old, Bona is the correct person to continue the demon’s legacy. However, Putri and Ida are not ready to accept that. Even though Putri does not like Bona very much, she has grown sympathetic toward him because he misses their mother as well. Meanwhile, Bona’s severed head pulls a part of the demon from inside him, and it latches on to Ms. Maryati instantly. This time, Ms. Maryati is possessed, and she tries her best to kill herself, because if she dies, the demon dies with her. While the demon tries to stop Ms Maryati from killing herself, she forces her body to willingly gulp down a type of expanding fluid that’s used in the factory. Consequently, Ms Maryati, with the demon inside her body, inflates like a balloon and ends up bursting, with human flesh flying everywhere. Putri and Ida do not wait for the ultimate end of their boss. In the end, Putri takes Bona’s severed head in her hand, and all of them run away from the entire mess.
